The more and more I think about new media in my life the more and more I think about dependency. In society today I believe that we rely on technologies like computers, phones, ipods, and even email way too much, but these ideas are now infused in the way we live. Can you imagine you life without them?
Computers have become the most important new media in my life. It is something I am on everyday because it gives access to everything, it holds my entire existence! Every assignment I have ever done is on my laptop because nothing is hand written anymore. Without my computer I feel like I would be completely lost, that's pretty sad. I was recently at work and I was talking to my boss about this idea of dependancy and she was telling me about her experience in college and how she had to look everything up on her own, there was no quick fix like Google. Honestly, I don't know what I would do without the internet today- it has saved me numerous times! Life has become to easy, not that people don't work hard anymore but in my opinion, a lot of people have become lazy. Have you become dependent??
I absolutely agree with you. I am sad to say that I am completely dependent. Earlier this year my roomates and I didn't get internet because we automatically were connecting with our neighbors ( bad, I know). One day it stopped working for me and not for anyone else. I called my dad to discuss finally gettign internet service. He asked me if getting a droid would suffice. Well, there is no way I was writing papers or doing research on my phone. But, the idea of not having a fully functioning computer was the scariest idea for those 5 minutes. I know alot of people try and not take part in Facebook. Some kept away for a while but eventually I saw them pop back up in the Facebook world or create a facebook. It's inevitable I think. I don't think I could function without my phone or computer, a little part of me would die.
